Post-Vasectomy Semen Analysis (PVSA)

Post-Vasectomy Semen Analysis (PVSA): Confirm Your Success
Fast, Accurate, and Private Testing in Manchester.
A vasectomy is not effective immediately. To ensure your procedure was successful and that you are no longer at risk of pregnancy, a Post-Vasectomy Semen Analysis (PVSA) is mandatory. Our specialized, high-sensitivity screening service is designed to confirm Azoospermia—the total absence of sperm.

We provide a specialist level of diagnostic care that basic clinics cannot match.
-
BAUS Guideline Adherence: We follow the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) guidelines and WHO 6th Edition protocols.

-
High-Sensitivity Analysis: If no sperm are seen initially, we use "Full Centrifugation" to concentrate the sample and detect even a single "stray" sperm cell.

-
Rapid 24-Hour Results: Skip the NHS waiting lists; we provide your certificate of clearance or further instructions within 24 hours.

-
Direct & Private Access: No GP referral is required. Our private Manchester lab allows for discreet sample drop-off or onsite collection, removing "waiting room anxiety."
Why Choose The Fertility Testing Centre?

When should I book my first Post - Vasectomy test?
In accordance with BAUS (British Association of Urological Surgeons) guidelines, you should wait a minimum of 12 to 16 weeks after your procedure and ensure you have had at least 20 ejaculations. Testing too early often leads to a "false positive" where residual sperm are still present in the ducts.

Why does The Fertility Testing Centre cost xxxx compared to other clinics?
Our fee reflects a specialist level of diagnostic care that basic clinics cannot match:
-
Full Centrifugation: If no sperm are seen initially, we "spin" the sample in a centrifuge to concentrate any hidden cells-a mandatory step for true clinical clearance.
-
24-Hour Results: We provide your certificate of clearance (or further instructions) within 24 hours.
-
Direct Access: No need for a GP referral or hospital waiting list.
Patient FAQ

What does "Clearance" actually mean?
"Clearance" is the clinical term used when your sample shows Azoospermia (zero sperm). According to BAUS standards, we provide clearance if a fresh, centrifuged sample shows no sperm. Please note that some surgeons may require two consecutive "clear" tests before advising you to stop using other forms of contraception.

What happens if sperm are still found?
It is not uncommon to see a few non-motile (dead) "residual" sperm in the first test. If this happens, we provide a detailed report for your surgeon and usually recommend a follow-up test 4 weeks later to ensure the count is trending toward zero.

Can I collect the sample at home?
Yes, but accuracy is paramount. The entire sample must be collected and delivered to our Manchester lab within 1 hour, kept at body temperature. For absolute certainty, we recommend using our private onsite collection rooms.

Is the test 100% accurate?
While no medical test is 100%, we use the highest level of testing available in the UK (WHO 6th Edition and BAUS protocols). This is designed to minimize the risk of "late recanalization," where the tubes naturally rejoin.
